How To Make Easy Thai Peanut Sauce

The Ingredients

This low carb peanut sauce is fuss-free and couldn’t be more simple. You’ll only need eight ingredients and one bowl. It’s very versatile, so adjust the ingredients to your tastes.

  • Natural peanut butter – Choose a natural, unsweetened, unsalted peanut butter to ensure you keep it keto.
  • Coconut aminos – Adds savory umami flavor to the sauce. Alternatively, substitute with tamari or soy sauce if it doesn’t need to be gluten-free.
  • Rice vinegar – Adds the needed acidity to the sauce. Alternatively, substitute with apple cider vinegar.
  • Lemon juice – A squeeze of lemon or lime juice to enhance all the flavors.
  • Garlic – Fresh minced garlic or from a jar. Add extra if you like.
  • Avocado oil – Alternatively, substitute for sesame oil or coconut oil.
  • Turmeric – A signature spice and flavor in Thai food.
  • Powdered Erythritol – This is the sugar-free sweetener used for the sauce. Alternatively, substitute for sugar-free sweeteners such as stevia, swerve, monk fruit, etc.
  • Optional – Sesame seeds, red pepper flakes.

The Directions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter with the coconut aminos, rice vinegar, lemon juice, minced garlic, avocado oil, turmeric, and Erythritol. Whisk all the ingredients together until they’re well combined.

Tips and Variations

Sauce Consistency – You can change the consistency of this sauce depending on what you are using it for. A thinner consistency is great as a salad dressing, and a thicker consistency works wonderfully as a dipping sauce. Remember to add the water very slowly to avoid making it too runny.

Keto Peanut Butter – Always check labels carefully to ensure no added sugars. Check the ingredient list; there should only be one ingredient: peanuts. It’s easy to make your own at home or in-store by grinding peanuts, then you know there’s nothing added.

Storage Tips

In the fridge: Store leftover sauce in an airtight container. How long does peanut sauce last? Because it’s homemade and has no preservatives, it will keep for up to one week. For longer-term storage, it also freezes very well!

To freeze: Make a big double or triple batch and freeze the leftovers. Store in a freezer-proof airtight container or freezer bag for up to 3 months.

To defrost/thaw: It’s very simple to defrost frozen peanut sauce. Place it in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals until soft and warm. You can also defrost it by placing it in a bowl in the fridge to thaw.
